pregnant prayers
Thursday, 24 January 2008

That's the working title. Pregnant Prayers. More than likely, it will be changed to something very, very long. PP is my WIP (work-in-progress). Someday, I'll write out the story of how it came to be. In a nutshell, it's a gift book (think Hallmark or baby shower, but hopefullly less cheesy), and Howard Books is publishing it. My manuscript is due Feb. 15, and the book will release in March of '09.

It's a really cool concept. Kind of a devotional, kind of not. It takes you through all 40 weeks of pregnancy with all sorts of neat elements. It's interactive and dynamic and even has original drawings of a baby in utero. Don't worry--they hired an illustrator. I have no delusions about my artistic ability. I can do words, and that's where it stops.

It's different than anything I've done before, and I'm excited. Pregnancy is an unparalleled time in a person's (woman's) life, and I'm having fun writing about the whole phenomenon. Funny, I haven't the slightest desire to be pregnant though. Three times was a charm for me.

Back to the loooooooong title that will probably make it on the front cover of the final product. I've written three books--From Blushing Bride to Wedded Wife, Is That All He Thinks About?, and Changing Your World One Diaper at a Time.  Do you see a trend? 6 words, 6 words, 8 words. The title of my 4th book could have ELEVEN words. Eek.

Oh well. I'm not complaining. I love what I do. Love it.

Harvest House sent me the flat cover yesterday for Changing Your World One Diaper at a Time. What's a flat cover? It's the actual cover of the book (minus the insides) spread flat so you can see the back cover, the binding, and the front cover (left to right). It's a little pink for my tastes, but pink is definitely a baby color, and this book is definitely about babies.

Here's the back cover copy:

Do you ever wonder if anyone understands what your life is like now that you're a mom? You're not alone, as you'll see in these pages. You'll nod your head in agreement, you'll laugh, and you may even wince as other moms share their stories and their responses to questions like these:

  • Do you sometimes feel guilty about going back to work? About not going back to work?
  • How do you relate to people who offer advice a little too freely?
  • How is Hubby doing in his new role as Daddy?
  • Are your baby's grandparents helpful? A little too helpful?
  • Do you feel as if your dreams for your own life are on hold?

When you're up to your elbows in dishes and diapers day after day, you might feel a little ho-hum about your new life as a mom. But as you'll see, God has put you in a strategic position to change your world, even if it is one diaper at a time.

I'm getting awfully excited. 38 more days!

ooooh, this is fun!

My hubby is making me a new website! How fun is that? And I even (semi-) know how to update it myself. I can't help but feel a tiny sense of power.

Anyway, this is it. My new site. Welcome! I'm excited to see how it comes together. And excited that my new book (#3) comes out in 40 days. This is really a dream come true for me. Praise and glory to God for giving me a crazy-huge desire to write, the ability to do it well (but, oh, I want to be better!) and for working out all the details of getting my stuff published in real (REAL!) books.

I'll try to update this blog daily. Maybe every other day. And I'll stick to writing stuff. You can read more about my personal life here , if you're so inclined. There's also a link on the menu above.

Thanks for stopping by! If you've got a moment, I'd love to hear from you. Blessings, friends!
